At the Melbourne Headshot Company, we’re known for creating refined, powerful portraits for professionals across the board — from CEOs and barristers to surgeons and political leaders. But we also thrive when creatives step into the studio — the authors, dancers, fine artists, and musicians who bring a unique kind of energy to the lens.
Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of photographing Monica Naselow, Principal Second Violinist with Orchestra Victoria. Like many artists, Monica had developed a bit of a photo phobia — not because she’s camera shy, but because past experiences convinced her that flattering portraits were simply out of reach. Poor angles, harsh lighting, and little creative input had her doubting whether a truly great photo was even possible.
Andrew Campbell, a highly experienced portrait photographer, embraced the opportunity to take on a creative challenge — a departure from his usual executive clientele. From the outset, he and Monica established an easy rapport that set the tone for a successful collaboration. The session was collaborative, relaxed, and full of laughter, with moments of spontaneity that turned into surprisingly hilarious (and highly expressive) portraits along the way.
The result...
After refining the lighting, composition, and tone to suit Monica’s personality, the final result was a beautifully composed portrait — warm, confident, and full of character. A striking contrast to the images she’d seen of herself before, this one finally captured her as she truly is: a passionate, accomplished musician with a spark of fun.
If you’re a creative professional who’s never quite felt “seen” in your photos, maybe it’s time to change the script. At the Melbourne Headshot Company, we don’t just take pictures — we work with you to create portraits that reflect your artistry, your profession, and most importantly, you.
